Chapter Thirteen – Joseph

Damn, she was gorgeous. At least, her long flowing light brown hair, wide light brown eyes, and light creamy skin were very alluring. She had a button nose, and full generous lips just short of pouty and a soft heart shaped face that was both cute and pretty at the same time. There was an innocence to the beauty of her face that caught my eye, and while her long black coat covered everything below her neck it conformed well enough that I could tell she had petite lissome body. It made me want to see more of her, but I didn’t look down from those eyes.

It was also beyond obvious she was a vampire, since she’d just tried to compel me, which made her off limits. Normally I’d have just blown her off, I’d been surrounded by good looking entitled woman all my life, but there were two things that made me reconsider.

One, she wasn’t entitled, she actually had a horribly guilty expression on her face, which made me want to comfort her for trying to take my free will. How did that work exactly? She was also just as obviously desperate and in deep trouble, I could see it in her eyes.

Two, was the source of that apparent desperation, a small boy standing in front of her, and she had her hands resting protectively on his shoulders. By his looks, it was obvious they were related. It was also just as obviously her younger brother, unless she’d given birth at the age of eleven, which was impossible.

She also had no clue I was a mage, or she wouldn’t have come up to me. The shocking part of that was that she had an aura as strong as my mother Julia’s, which meant she should be able to feel my magic, but for some reason wasn’t. Between the younger brother, and that discrepancy, I figured a warlock must be involved in her plight, and she must be brand new to this life.

I nodded, “I’d be glad too. What’s the ten dollars for?”

She blushed, and also looked surprised I’d asked.

“Gas,” she said in a soft sheepish voice.

I nodded, “My sister should be out in a minute, it’s kind of cold out here, let’s wait in the car?” I asked as I looked down at her brother.

She bit her lip, and then nodded as she looked away. Was she that surprised by simple concern? I was fine with my spells, and knew she was fine, but her brother had to be cold. I unlocked the doors, and slid inside and started the car as they opened the door and got in the backseat, good thing I’d put the cage in the trunk earlier. The heat came right up, and I blasted it.

I was dreadfully curious, but I had the feeling questions would scare her away. She slipped out of the coat and wrapped it around her brother. She had on a pair of yoga pants, and a long red sweater that conformed wonderfully to her curves.
